SLICEM:
Simple Furniture Production
SLICEM experiments around the idea of how to produce furniture using a single sheet of material. It was also an attempt to see how simplified the production could be while using both modern and traditional production methods.
Introduction / Ver. 1
I like the challenge of designing under constraints. Both versions follow one principle: they must be made from a single piece of material.
In my first iteration, a single sheet of aluminium is cut with a waterjet and bent into its final form by hand. There you have it: a light weighted and stable stool.
Ver. 2
In my second iteration, a single piece of oak was cut by the CNC from a single direction. The compact layout avoids material waste.
To combine traditional woodcraft with modern production techniques, I reduced the use of adhesive and screws and mainly used the mortise and tenon joint structure to assemble the stool.
